Setlist war wie die der letzten USA-Shows (Burn down the Mission wurde lt. einigen Kommentaren auch gespielt, und die Zugaben wurden offensichtlich ganz vergessen, auszuzählen^^):
Sir Elton simply amazing Posted By GREG BURLIUK, THE WHIG STANDARD Posted 9 hours ago
Elton John has been making hits for 40 years yet he opened last night's sold-out concert at the K-Rock Centre with a song that has probably never been played on the radio.
Funeral For A Friend, from his 1974 double album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, times in at 11 minutes with lots of piercing guitar, walloping drums from two drummers and pounding piano from the diminutive superstar.
On this night Sir Elton had come to rock.
He then did his best Jerry Lee Lewis imitation with some rock and roll piano onSaturday's Alright (For Fighting).EvenLevon, which was considered a bit of a ballad when it was a big hit in Canada in 1971, was given bombastic treatment of the ear-ringing variety.
John got a standing ovation after every song, but the song that really got the crowd going was the sixth song in,Philadelphia Freedom, written by him in 1975 for his friend, tennis star Billie Jean King, who had a tennis team by that name. It's a bouncy, tuneful ditty that he followed withGoodbye Yellow Brick Road, with John suggesting the crowd sing along and before you knew it you realized that you know most of the words to that song.
A song of the same vintage,Daniel, was even easier to recall, especially the opening lines: Daniel is leaving tonight on a plane/I can see the red tail lights heading for Spain
Seventy five minutes into the concert Sir Elton still hadn't sung a song younger than 35 years old but nobody was complaining. His output in the 70s was prodigious and John has a way of dressing up the songs to make them sound contemporary.
At the end of 1972'sRocket Man,for example, he launched into a lengthy piano solo that was a combination of blues, classical, jazz and barrelhouse rock that brought down the house.
Elton John could have played the hits in the three-minute versions everyone grew up listening to but it was more exciting to watch him build each one into longer and more creative expositions. His voice may not be able to hit the highest notes he used to but he's clever enough to find lower ones that work just as well.
Similarly, with a collection of 13 No. 1 hits, John could have just played from his A List but he mixed it up, throwing in lesser gems likeSomeone Saved My Life Tonight, Take Me To The Pilot-- from way back in 1970 -- andSorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word, from 1976.
Sir Elton had a hit three different times withA Candle In The Wind, most notably when he played it at Lady Diana's funeral in 1997. His version this time was simple in its eloquence and unlike the other songs he performed last night, it had few embellishments.
Last night wasn't even all about the past. The audience got a preview of a song to be released on an upcoming album John has made with Leon Russell, the veteran rocker and songwriter who he has long admired. It was a quiet ballad but frankly pale beside the old stuff.
How could the crowd of 6,700 not be pleased to be at Kingston's biggest concert ever and be entertained non-stop for 150 minutes? Sir Elton went out as he came in, rocking. First with the seminalBennie and the Jets, then the hard-rockingThe Bitch is Back, and then the fittingI'm Still Standing. It was exhausting to watch this rock veteran show how much energy he still has for performing. When he got everyone to sing the la-la-la-la part inCrocodile Rock, there was a strong feeling that the roof would blow off the K-Rock Centre.
Amazing, simply amazing.

Die Beschreibung von Eltons Outfit („ … a short-cropped Julius Caesar shag haircut … and a large Donald Duck button on his right lapel …“) wird durch einige Abbildungen auf das Sehenswerteste bestätigt. All record companies are interested in is making money. … Once you’re successful, they’re going to try to get as much hype going as possible.“) und verspottet einige Musiker. You can’t win in both territories, I don’t mind.“).
