I cannot believe that so many so-called fans of Sir Elton would believe all they've read in the media about Rush Limbaugh and not even for a SECOND question that instead of the artist. The shame is on all of you for being so closed minded. What do you think is more likely to change someone's mind, calling them names and lying about them with made-up quotes as has been done about Rush or reaching out in friendship. Sir Elton discovered that Rush is not the boogeyman so many people have created. If through playing Rush's wedding -- and by the way, the $1M is just a rumor -- Elton and Rush can come closer to an understanding and persuade each other to see their ideological opponents as human beings, well, isn't that what music is all about.
I was at the wedding, and I can tell you Elton blew...us...a...way! He was so kind and yet so forceful. "I'm about knocking down walls and building bridges," he said. "Let's build some bridges here tonight." After coming out with Your Song, he said to the audience, "You're probably wondering why I'm here. Well, if I believed everything I read in the media about Rush, I wouldn't be." Elton John is an example for all of us on how to love our neighbors and to reach out to our ideological opponents on a very human level. Music is about uniting, and as Rush said, "People are shocked because they think there's a political divide. Well, there is a political guide but that doesn't matter! What there is is a respect for supreme talent and professionalism." The fact that Sir Elton also played for Obama fund-raisers, when his position on gay marriage is the same as Rush's, made this far less shocking than the media -- who have twisted notions of both men -- would think. I had tears in my eyes a few times. I was just screaming. Every song, we gave Sir Elton a standing ovation. Sir Elton also played the USSR. Have you ever looked at their treatment of gays and did you complain then?
And shocking to you who have this bigoted notion of Rush, there were gay folks there -- and black folks and brown and same-sex married. Elton John's the superstar and the one knighted by the queen, not any of you. I guess we know why. He may stand only slightly taller than the piano, but he's a GIANT.
I just want to say THANK YOU to Elton John -- and to Rush and Kathryn, for giving us a great gift on THEIR wedding day.
It is all about building bridges, not walls".
Und hier ist die Setlist: 1) Your Song 2) Tiny Dancer 3) Daniel 4) Philadelphia Freedom 5) Someone Saved My Life Tonight 6) Rocket Man 7) I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues 8) Candle in the Wind 9) Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me 10) Bennie and the Jets 11) I’m Still Standing 12) Crocodile Rock -Encore- 13) Can You Feel the Love
